WithYou responds to the UK Government proposal to expand access to naloxone supplies
25 January 2024
On Wednesday 24 January the UK Government announced a proposal to expand access to naloxone supplies.
Naloxone is a life-saving emergency medication that reverses the effects of opioid drugs, and it works on synthetic opioids like nitazenes too.
At WithYou, we deliver naloxone training and supply kits to our clients and their families, as well as to a wide range of professionals across different sectors, so that they have the confidence and means to potentially save someone’s life in the event of an opioid overdose.
Dr Kate Blazey, Executive Medical Director at WithYou said:
"We very much welcome the Government’s latest proposals to increase access to naloxone, a potentially life-saving opioid overdose reversal medication.
With synthetic opioids being increasingly identified in illicit drugs, making sure more people have easier access is more important than ever.
Expanding the number of organisations and individuals able to supply take-home naloxone without a prescription is critical. It is low cost, easy to use and can be the difference between life and death."
