Support group for families affected by drugs and alcohol in Dundee
20 November 2023
People in Dundee who are worried about a family member’s drug use are invited to attend a support group run by charities With You and Dundee Carers Centre , working closely alongside Scottish Families Affected by Drugs and Alcohol.
The Family Group takes place every Tuesday from 10-12pm at the WithYou base at The Roundhouse, Lothian Crescent, Whitfield, DD4 0HU.
Jayne Jeffrey, Team Leader at WithYou in Dundee, says:
“As well as delivering services for people in Dundee who are affected by drugs or alcohol, we offer support to their family members. We know how difficult it can be to watch a loved one struggle.
“We are pleased to be working with Dundee Carers Centre and Scottish Families Affected by Drugs and Alcohol to deliver this free group. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need someone to speak to - we are WithYou.”
The group offers information on rehab options and other local support services, as well as setting boundaries and dealing with challenges faced by family members. Staff from Dundee Carers Centre can offer specific advice for carers, ensuring they are aware of their rights.
One mother who attends the group said: “My family and friends are great but it is good to meet people who understand me and where I am coming from.”
